Gaming Under Duress
I went home this weekend for my dad's birthday and my nephew's baptism. I also ended up aquiring the entertainment of my almost 7 year old cousin, Brandon.
Brandon like videogames but has relatively little exposure to them I think due to his dad's attitude. I'm not sure if it is that he doesn't want him to be like me or doesn't think he could properly take care of a system, which is understandable.
He also like Mario. And most particularily Mario Kart. This weekend aside from some time with SSBM or Mega Man X Collection he had me playing Double Dash or DS most of the weekend. On the bright side he is improved over how he used to play. He can regularily get 1st (or 2nd when I play with him) and only has some problems with steering. He also can't drift worth anything yet. Biggest problem in DD he is obsessed with the Mushroom Cup which is all fine and good but that is the only set of courses he'll play as they are the only ones he knows well and he likes the ego trip of winning consistently (or getting 2nd place to me seeing as I don't let him win). What's worse he is only good enough to play 50cc which is a cake walk for me. Not to mention he always wants me to play, by the end I was nearly sleepwalking through the Mushroom Cup.
Fortunately he also seemed to like MKDS and play that alone (we did some wireless with my brother's DS) but seemed to play more courses on purpose. He seems to get it pretty good as he was winning his cups on 50cc seemingly easy enough. Though I wouldn't want to see him take the higher cc's as I don't think he could handle the frustration of being hit by 3 or 4 blue shells in one friggin' lap.
