Videogames and Crime

I came across this article and graph at Kotaku from Gamepolitics.

It points out that since the early 90's violence among people 12 and up have went down a rather staggering amount. The article writer also kindly marks when the various systems and GTA3 came out. Notice the downward trend?

Now it would be presumptuous say because of videogames violence has gone down but likewise it makes even more so to say that GTA and videogames in general cause violence.

It is more than likely that violent crime has gone down due to better enforcement and correctional processes in this country. There was an upswing in the 60's, I believe, of violent crime due to laxing in the enforcement and correctional efforts and we just started to recover from it in the early '90s.
