Concerning NSMB

I stated in my Top 5 of the 1st Half of 2006 that New Super Mario Bros. throws lives at you like candy. Which it does. But I wrote that under the mistaken belief that is a new(-ish) phenomenom with Mario games.

Take Super Mario Bros. 3 and World. Being able to recently play these games on their respective systems I can say that Nintendo was throwing lives at you in large amounts even in those days. Super Mario Bros. 3 not as much but still enough to not worry about dying. Super Mario World I can safely say I've collected up to nearly 200 unused lives. Heck in the Forest of Illusion Alone I had 50 when I finished and do believe I used up my 3 I start out with since whenever you save and quit the game starts you back to three lives and regular Mario.

The only real difficulty in regards to lives is that in SMB3 you can't save at all and SMW resets you back to 3 lives in regular Mario as stated.

So once again nostalgia probably has clouded many a mind in that regard.
