Sony vs. Used Games?

I really hope this is just a rumor, as it has yet to be confirmed. Given Sony's rather dubious record of first-gen console reliability, if this were to happen it would probably piss off a great many gamers.Not me so much as I tend to not like buying used games though I do from time to time. As it stands I am skeptical of its veracity but who knows. I also didn't think Sony would price a system at $600.
Though it sounds like something Nintendo would have done during their heyday, as from what I can remember they didn't really care for renting games either.
