Remember Sega?
Remember when Sega was first rumoured to being going 3rd party? Remember all the hype how they would instantly become the #1 3rd party? Well, that didn't happen.
In fact, since Sega has gone 3rd party, I'm very hard pressed to think of one game of their's (outside of their former sports line-up) that would be considered GOTY material outside of Panzer Dragoon for the XBox. There have been a few games of their's I've enjoyed NFL 2k3, Super Monkey Ball, F-Zero GX, Skies of Arcadia, and Sonic Mega Collection +. All five of those are very good games, not great though and Skies is a port of the DC game and SMC+ is more of a showcase of what Sega was as opposed to what they are now.
Which brings me to Sonic. Man as he fallen. Since at least Sonic Adventure (which sucked) every console 3D platformer starring him or spinning off from the franchise has sucked more and more. I've come to the conclusion that Sonic doesn't work in full 3D but Sega keeps trying. I've heard the new one on the Wii might be going back to his roots so there may be some hope but I'm not holding my breath.
But really Sega today is just a hallow shell of a company. Maybe it was the nearly going bankrupt thing but a company that used to be a major player in the industry can barely count itself as a middle tier 3rd party and it is pretty sad.
I'd really like to see Sega come back but I don't know if they have the resources or the ability to makes games like they used to.
