Nintendo Ups the Ante on Wi-Fi

I had a suspicion that the reason that Mario Kart and Animal Crossing were short on features was because of their experimental nature for Nintendo and also that they were essentially release titles for the service.

Now with Metroid Prime: Hunters, Nintendo has seemed to given Wi-Fi players a full-featured online experience. Voice chat before and after matches, buffed up stat tracking, and more online features.

For instance, Nintendo.com has an interview with one of the guys behind Hunters which talks about these "upgrades".

That's 7 modes of play, detailed stat tracking, the ability to make rivals friends, a robust lobby system, voice chat and many set up options. And I can't forget the "Chump Points" system that tracks disconnects. This is the kind of stuff people were wanting from MK and AC. And Nintendo is willing to oblige and show us what the service is capable of.

In my eyes this is sort of a second launch of the service. The launch where we finally get that full service in online play.

And with that and Tetris DS (also Wi-Fi) releasing on the same day, I'm going to be a busy gamer. It also makes me very interested in what Nintendo is going to offer for the Revolution.
