Lack of Censorship?
I've noticed a distinct trend now that cable TV has been allowed leaner standards towards swearing. I first really noticed it when I watched the Matrix: Reloaded on TBS a few months back, Neo said "Bullshit" to the architect. Now I'm watching Pretty Woman also on TBS and they've said "Bullshit" numerous times. No dubbing over, no beeping, no censoring whatsoever. And from the looks of it when Erin Brokovich will also be uncensored at least where language is concerned (I don't know about any other content for the movie). And this just isn't late night either, they played Pretty Woman during prime time without swearing censored. I'm not really sure of other cable channels but TBS had always been one of the more apt to censorship channels so I could imagine other channels might be doing the same.
This is both an interesting and hopefully promising trend that American TV is taking. I'm not calling for shows having swearing completely off the hook but it is particularily nice for movies and shows that may call for it.
