The Vikings Better Put Up or Shut Up
With the 2005 getting fully underway this Sunday, my team the Minnesota Vikings are gearing up to make a run at finally winning the NFC North after much changes. Most notably trading Randy Moss to the Raiders for Napoleon Harris and a first round pick which became Troy Williamson. Also they spent large sums of money to try to shore up the real reason they were incapable of keeping the momentum they had in the first 6 games of the last two seasons into the second half. Which is good since I was certain that after Moss was traded that the Vikings were going to rest on this laurel and not actually try to fix the D claiming Moss was the reason why they have had one of the worst defensives regularly for the last 6 seasons.
This season though they better put up or shut up. They fixed their D, they traded away a troublemaker and if they don’t come out of this with at least 11 or 12 wins and an NFC North title and making it at least to the 2nd round of the NFC Playoffs they may have lost any patience I’ve had with them. Tice better coach like his ass is on the line because it is.
I don’t want to be angry with the Vikings. Despite the frustration I love the team. But trading away the best WR in the game still seems completely insane, especially considering they could have gotten all that defensive help with him on the team.
Update: Moss's first game as a Raider: 5 catches 130 yards and a touchdown. Sigh. I hope he has a great season.
Update: Well I can tell that not having that super dangerous deep threat in Moss has made this team less of a dangerous force. The D has done its job for the most part 2 turnovers and one TD given. But the haven't allowed the Vikes to get down by several TDs while the Offense struggles so that is important.
Update: Can you say rusty? Can you say out of sync? Can you say that Randy Moss was the key to the offense? I can.
