Political Amnesia
Though most common slogan thrown around by those on the left against Bush these days is: "Bush Lied People Died." The idea that is that Bush lied about WMDs as an excuse to remove Hussein. One of John Kerry's running points was that very slogan. But:

This quote just before the invasion:
Without question, we need to disarm Saddam Hussein. He is a brutal, murderous dictator, leading an oppressive regime ... - Sen. John F. Kerry (D, MA), Jan. 23. 2003
"[W]e urge you, after consulting with Congress, and consistent with the U.S. Constitution and laws, to take necessary actions (including, if appropriate, air and missile strikes on suspect Iraqi sites) to respond effectively to the threat posed by Iraq's refusal to end its weapons of mass destruction programs."The point is that John Kerry before he started his presidential campaign he believed, on probably the same intelligence that Bush used, that Hussein had or was developing WMDs and needed to be taken out by force. He even voted for to give Bush the power to do so. It is my belief that until it became a political slogan a vast majority of the Democrats believed that Hussein was a legitimate threat to the US as both a provider of WMDs and as a terrorist supporter. They might have differed with Bush in how to go about it but in the end they probably felt that direct military action against the regime was the only way to solve the problem.
